Head of Financial Planning
IG Wealth Management's Advanced Financial Planning team includes tax accountants, estate lawyers (and notaries in Quebec), financial planning specialists, pension specialists and individuals with various types of advanced expertise.
Working collaboratively with IG Consultants and Regional Specialists, the team has helped guide Canadians across a range of situations and goals. Including personal, corporate and trust taxation, estate planning, family property matters, trusts and disability planning, charitable giving, and farm taxation.
Before joining IG Wealth Management in 2019 Paul spent over eleven years working at a national public accounting firm and a big 5 Canadian bank. Paul obtained his Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designations in 2010. He also has his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation. For the last few years, Paul has been facilitating at the CPA In-Depth Tax Program and teaching courses at the University of Toronto for new tax professionals and students.
Prior to joining IG Wealth Management, Dan practiced law for several years at a full-service Winnipeg law firm where he worked extensively with owner-managers of private companies on various issues. Dan obtained his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2013, and was called to the Manitoba Bar in 2014 upon his return to the Province.
Aurèle, a Chartered Professional Accountant, is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, has his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and is a Registered Retirement Consultant and is a Trust & Estate Practitioner, as certified by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”). Aurele received the FP CanadaTM Fellow distinction in 2018, which recognizes individuals who have helped advance FP Canada's purpose and CFP® professional standards, and who have embodied these standards throughout their careers. He continues to volunteer with FP Canada in various capacities and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF).
Pieter is a Senior Manager, LPP Support at IG Wealth Management, servicing advisors nationally with financial planning support for high net worth clientele. Pieter has completed various courses including the IFIC mutual fund course, Life Licensing Qualification Program (LLQP), and Anthony Morris’ reputable Top Advisor Program. He holds his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designations.
Before joining IG Wealth Management in 2019 Mathew spent close to a decade working in a public accounting firm. Mathew obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree from University of Alberta and his Chartered Accountant (CA) and Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designations in 2011. He also has his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and has completed the CPA In-Depth Taxation Program and CPA International In-Depth Taxation Program.
Nicolas is in the Living Plan Portal team of the Advanced Financial Planning department at IG Wealth Management. Nicolas has worked in the financial services industry as a Consultant, as a region office financial planning specialist and eventually as a financial planning specialist. He has several academic achievements in finance, namely having completed the Fundamentals of Financial Planning course from the University of California Irvine: Extension, with honors. Nicolas is also a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional and is currently pursuing the Pl. Fin designation.
Blair has a breadth of experience providing clients with advice on matters including corporate taxation, transaction structuring and tax planning for high net worth individuals. Before joining IG Wealth Management, Blair spent 11 years with a large national accounting firm, leaving in 2017 as a Senior Manager within their Tax group. Blair has completed the In-Depth Tax Program and CPA Reorganizations Advanced Tax Course. Blair earned his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation in 2018, garnering a spot on the President’s List with a top three mark in Canada, and obtained his Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP) designation in 2020. He is a member of Chartered Professional Accountants of Manitoba (CPA Manitoba), the Canadian Tax Foundation, FP Canada and the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (TEP).
Ken’s focus is primarily with owner-managed businesses, especially as it relates to estate and succession planning. Ken spent many years in the insurance industry and works on integrating insurance planning solutions for business owners as part of an integrated solution.
Tye is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with a breadth of experience providing advice on matters including corporate accounting and taxation, corporate restructuring, farm & fishing taxation, and tax planning for high net worth individuals. Tye obtained his Commerce degree from the University of Manitoba (2008). Tye spent several years practicing accounting and tax with a mid-sized accounting firm in Winnipeg prior to joining IG Wealth Management in 2014. Tye also holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation (2021).
Craig obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Manchester, England. Craig holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and has been recognized as a member of FP Canada’s President’s List by placing first nationally in the CFP® examination. Craig is a Trust & Estate Practitioner, as certified by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Craig has over 16 years of experience in the financial industry having joined IG Wealth Management in 2005.
Geneviève studied accounting/tax at HEC Montréal and has been a tax specialist since 2014. She worked at a firm for four years and joined IG in August 2017. She first worked in various offices, and then joined the Quebec General Office in fall 2018. Geneviève specializes in tax and estate planning for small businesses and individuals. She is currently pursuing Financial Planner certification.
Mariska is a Chartered Professional Accountant who completed the In-Depth Tax Program and the Advanced Tax Courses. Prior to joining IG in 2015, she spent 13 years working for a large accounting ﬁrm in Winnipeg. Mariska has continued to work with clients on issues relating to estate planning, business succession, and tax planning with a special focus on cross-border issues. Mariska is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, has her CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation and is a Trust & Estate Practitioner, certiﬁed by the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Josée studied law at the University of Montreal and has been practicing since 1991. She has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services sector. Josée is a member of the Association de planification fiscale et financière (APFF) and also holds the Trust and Estate Practitioner designation. Josée specializes in tax and estate planning for individuals. She provides high net worth clients with advice on a variety of complex issues relating to tax and estate planning. She develops training on these topics, which she offers to our advisors.
Prior to joining IG Wealth Management in 2019, Craig worked in the tax groups for National and local accounting firms for over 16 years. Craig obtained his Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Windsor and his MBA from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA), has earned the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® and Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designations, and has completed the CICA In Depth Tax Course.
Marc studied Law and Taxation at the University of Montreal and at the University of Sherbrooke. He has five years of private practice experience (general notarial practice as well as estate and will planning) and nine years of experience in the financial services industry. Marc joined IG Wealth Management in August 2017. He holds a Master’s degree in taxation, has been a notary since 2007, and is a member of the Fiscal and Financial Planning Association (APFF).
Athenea obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from University of Ottawa and her Juris Doctorate degree from Michigan State University College of Law. Before joining IG, Athenea clerked at the Tax Court of Canada and later dedicated her professional career to advising individuals, their fiduciaries, farm businesses and other owner-managed businesses on tax, estate planning, and succession matters. Athenea is certified by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners as a Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP).
Richard joined IG in 2007.Previously, he has worked as a financial services sales professional with a major chartered bank for 10 years and worked in the financial planning software industry for 8 years. He works with the Consultant network in creating financial plans for Canadians. He also makes financial planning presentations to IG Consultants from time to time. Richard is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® professional, Registered Retirement Consultant (RRC) and he is working towards his Chartered Life Underwrite (CLU) designation.
Shannon is on the Living Plan Portal team of the Advanced Financial Planning department at IG. Shannon has over 20 years industry experience, including being an IG Wealth Management Consultant. She has completed several financial courses including the IFIC Mutual Fund course, the Canadian Securities Course and the Personal Financial Planners Course and is currently pursuing the CFP® designation.
Todd is a graduate of the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) and received his CPA, CMA designation in 1996. Todd has over 20 years of experience with IG Wealth Management, beginning his career in 1999 as a Consultant. He also has 6 years of experience as an accountant in the private sector. Todd is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation has his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation, is a Registered Retirement Consultant and is a Trust & Estate Practitioner, as certified by the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (“STEP”).
Sheryl obtained her Chartered Accountant designation in 2006, completed the CICA In-Depth tax program in 2009, obtained her TEP in 2017, and successfully completed the CFP® exam in 2017. Prior to working at IG, she worked for a national accounting firm as a senior tax manager, where she worked with owner-managed businesses, farms, and high net worth individuals in planning for various life cycles of their businesses.
Terry began his career in the financial services industry in 1996 and has worked in quality assurance, support and training, and other roles related to financial planning software. He has also worked directly with clients as a financial consultant for five years. Terry has an honours degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Guelph. He has completed numerous industry courses including the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), the Conduct and Practices Handbook (CPH) and the Life Licensing Qualification Program (LLQP). Terry has held the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® designation since November 2001, and is also a Registered Retirement Consultant. He obtained the Chartered Life Underwriter designation in 2019.
