Damon Murchison is a long-standing member of IGM Financial. Before assuming his current role at IG Wealth Management in September 2020, he was Executive Vice-President, Head of Retail Distribution at Mackenzie Investments, having been with the organization since 2014. Drawing on his 25+ years of financial services leadership experience from past positions with other financial institutions, Damon has a deep understanding of the wealth management and asset management sectors. He has leveraged this to take IG Wealth Management to new heights with a focus on establishing the firm as the premier financial planning company in the country.
Positioning IG for success
Damon’s leadership has ensured IG delivers personalized, holistic financial planning to all its clients while providing investment solutions built on performance, innovation, and value. He has organized his leadership team to be able to deliver on this mandate by creating divisions dedicated to financial planning and client experience.
He firmly believes: “An important part of overall well-being is financial well-being. And to achieve financial well-being, Canadians have an opportunity to develop a long-term relationship with an IG Advisor who will look at all aspects of their life and create a financial plan which will help them reach their goals throughout their lifetime.”
Damon also understands that with wealth comes complexity. With Canadians currently navigating high marginal tax rates and going through one of the largest intergenerational transfers of wealth in history, there’s a significant need for guidance and insight. It’s for this reason that, working closely with IG’s Head of Private Wealth Management, he has made it a priority to focus on helping high-net worth Canadians successfully navigate personal finance questions.
Putting people first
Damon leads with a people-first mindset—whether it’s clients, employees, advisors, or shareholders. That’s why his approach to leadership is focused on these three main pillars: culture and environment, support and collaboration, and transparency and accountability.
Beyond his role at IG, Damon is active in his community and passionate about improving the lives of the disadvantaged. Damon is a long-time member of the Board of Directors for George Brown College Foundation and received an honourary commerce degree in 2022 for his commitment and contributions. He has also recently been appointed as a board member for the BlackNorth Initiative for his dedication to ending anti-Black systemic racism in Canada and to the United Way of Winnipeg for his support of the Winnipeg community.
